Zoom!®

There are numerous factors that can contribute to tooth discoloration, such as tobacco use, consumption of dark beverages like red wine, coffee, tea, and cola. Additionally, the natural aging process and the use of certain prescription medications can cause teeth to become yellowed or grayed.

The market offers a wide array of teeth whitening treatments, including take-home strips, bleaching toothpastes, and take-home whitening gels. However, many of these take-home gels may prove ineffective and fail to deliver the desired results.

Zoom!® treatment stands out from these other options due to several advantages, including:

  1. Simultaneous treatment of all teeth.
  2. Shorter treatment times.
  3. Longer-lasting results.
  4. Reduced sensitivity.
  5. Ability to remove stains on crowns, veneers, and other restorations.
  6. Safe and secure procedure. Performed by skilled and experienced professionals.

How does Zoom!® whiten the teeth?

Zoom!® is an effective teeth whitening procedure that targets both the dentin and enamel of the teeth, resulting in noticeable lightening. The active ingredient in the Zoom!® gel is a 25% hydrogen peroxide component. When applied to the teeth, this hydrogen peroxide breaks down into small oxygen bubbles, which play a crucial role in eliminating yellowing and discoloration.

To activate the gel and expedite the whitening process, a specialized mercury metal halide light is used. This light is equipped with an infrared filter that minimizes heat production, reducing sensitivity during the procedure. Importantly, the internal structure of the teeth remains healthy and intact throughout and after the treatment.

The final outcome of Zoom!® whitening may vary depending on the extent of staining and the condition of the teeth. It is recommended to consult with a dentist to understand the potential results achievable with Zoom!® in individual cases. Additionally, Zoom!® is applied exclusively to teeth and gums that are in a healthy state. If tooth decay or gum disease is present, it is necessary to address these issues and establish control before undergoing the bleaching treatment.

How is the Zoom!® treatment performed?

Before undergoing the treatment, a consultation with the dentist will clarify the procedure. On the day of the treatment, the teeth will undergo a thorough cleaning to remove debris and plaque. Protective eyewear will be provided to shield the eyes from the halide light, and splashguards will be used to safeguard clothing from the bleaching agent.

Here is a brief overview of the Zoom!® procedure:

  1. Cheek retractors will be placed to expose the entire surface of the teeth.
  2. The gums will be painted or covered to reduce sensitivity.
  3. The dentist will apply the whitening gel to the teeth.
  4. The halide light will then be applied to activate the gel.  This specialized Zoom!® light can be positioned to work on all the teeth simultaneously.
  5. After 15 minutes, gel will be removed from the teeth and the mouth will be rinsed.
  6. More gel will be applied for another 15 minutes.
  7. Again, the gel will be removed and the mouth will be thoroughly cleansed.
  8. The final treatment of gel will be applied for 15 minutes.
  9. The gel will be removed for the final time.

What happens after treatment?

The same external factors that caused the discoloration in the first place can quickly work their way back onto the teeth.  For this reason, the dentist recommends flossing once a day, thorough cleaning with anti-sensitivity toothpaste twice a day, and occasional retreatment with Zoom!® Weekender.  These post-treatment measures will ensure that the smile stays at its whitest for a long time.
